For our second release of the year, New York-based artist Despina takes the reins. They provide four bass-heavy tracks optimally designed for the dancefloor.

The record kicks into gear with Packing (Phallus). Detuned squeaks, morphing drum hits and heavy subs provide the basis, before the introduction of a huge rising synth. The intensity rises to a fever pitch, before the track is playfully stripped back down again.

Next up, Akimbo kicks off with intricate sound design before bringing in deep sub stabs and expertly programmed percussive patterns, giving way to a cavernous bassline. As the bassline morphs around us, spiraling breaks and high-pitched sirens keep the energy levels high.

Alexa In Disrepair starts where we left off, with strange, mutating percussion bouncing around heavy kicks. Tense melodic hits build things up, before giving way to a disorientating breakdown. Vocal calls signal the reintroduction of a deep bassline and driving rhythms.

Despina closes the record out with Weird Angel. A vocal sample encouraging us to “play, always” introduces us to the track, before catching the listener off-guard with intense, echoing breaks. The breakbeats are stripped back to leave us with a compelling rhythmic workout, complemented by industrial bass hits, repeating synth stabs and swirling vocals.

Limb Slip is out across all platforms on the 11th February.
