ACEN 006 is the first release of 2019 from Leeds based producer BFTT, offering up two tracks that balance a buoyant production style with complex rhythms and driving drums. Both tracks value personality and an unshakeable sense of fun that leaves a lasting impression on the listener, reinforcing the style he’s established across his back catalogue.
A side Mauldeth uses bouncy drums to signal it’s beginning, with dubbed out fx spiralling around the tracks core as it travels towards it’s high point. Shortly after the minute mark the track dissipates away and returns to its staple parts, slowly building back up over many repetitions as more drums, fx and vocal glitches enter the field whilst triplet rhythms subtly throw the listener off course.
B side Wrench favours an anchored 4x4 kick, with the tracks melodic and rhythmic ideas orbiting around it. BFTT’s expert use of tension and release is is particularly prominent here with the track slowly unfolding as buzzing FX roll out alongside hypnotic chords and a clipped synth. Often ideas will initially flash into earshot and disappear again before later sliding into the audio field and adding the to dizzying sonic world that BFTT builds.
Mauldeth is available across all platforms from the 26th of April.
