On ACEN027, Amazinggaijin follows a series of releases on his Good Delivery Record imprint with four experimental club tracks for All Centre.

The EP opens with Construction Block. The track is inspired by Amazinggaijin’s stay in Berlin’s Rudolfkiez, an area which has been undergoing heavy gentrification, surrounding him with construction projects. Subtle sound design morphs underneath a series of driving kicks, before a machinic hi-hat pattern reminiscent of a jackhammer destroying the pavement propels the track forward. Shifts in reverb mutate the space of the track, building a captivating and disorientating atmosphere in this stripped-down drum tool.

On the second track Cacophonie, Amazinggaijin is joined by Irish producer Lighght. Cacophonie, which means “a harsh discordant mixture of sounds” in French, is a study on drawing on different sources of sound and making them work together (including a Virtual Sitar that Gaijin gives heavy treatment). It’s a match made in heaven between the Irish & French producers, as they push the boundaries between electro-acoustic and club music. The track begins with an entrancing, hypnotic melody created by tweaking a Korg Volca sample machine before a compelling drum pattern is introduced with subtle pitch-shifted hi-hats. A metallic, percussive melody enters the mix, morphing throughout the track and gradually growing in intensity.

Oxygen Tank begins with the same hypnotic chord progression but raises the tempo, bringing a grime influence into the drum programming and introducing a sino-grime melody. The rhythms of the melodies and drums shift around each other throughout, and a soaring siren-like synth enters the mix towards the end of the track.

The record ends with digital-only track The Strength Within, an ambient record underpinned by an atmospheric droning pad, occasionally interrupted by pieces of intricate, subtle sound design. The Franco-Congolese producer captures what loneliness induced by an atomized society who “celebrated” one year under a global pandemic feels like.
